A new protocol for renewable energy and cultural heritage

12 Oct 2023 — ICOMOS Spain launched best-practices to build renewable energy infrastructures without forgetting the cultural heritage

“The energy crisis compels us to accelerate the achievement of sustainable development goals. Amidst this, cultural heritage, its needs, and its opportunities emerge.” says Jordi Tresserras the president of ICOMOS, International council of monuments and sites. He is responsible for the first set of best-practices about building infrastructures without forgetting the cultural heritage.

The signed document has been structured to be a common framework that each territory should develop according to its Cultural Heritage laws. It will guarantee the assessment of the visual impact of the installation of wind and solar infrastructures on historic sites and properties in the absence of specific legislation.
