01 Jul 2026 — A new POCITYF infopack draws the lessons from a renewable energy community in Valverde

In Valverde, a village around 12 km from Évora, POCITYF has tested what local energy sharing can look like outside a city centre. The renewable energy community brings together rooftop solar, battery storage and a model designed to let new members join over time, with or without production of their own.

A new infopack released by the project coordinator team EDP, now looks at what happened behind the scenes. It explores how the community was designed, how peer-to-peer energy trading was trialled during the monitoring phase, and how the results are feeding into Portuguese regulatory work, including POCITYF’s sandbox with the regulator ERSE.

The most useful lessons are also the least visible from the outside. What should be checked before setting up a community? Why can meters, generation-unit registration or digital tools make such a difference? And what still makes the process too complex for residents, municipalities or local promoters?

The infopack turns Valverde’s experience into practical pointers for communities and policymakers looking to make renewable energy communities easier to start, manage and replicate. Read it to find out what Valverde can teach others ready to share clean power locally: find it on Zenodo
