27 Aug 2026 — A TVI feature brings POCITYF’s work in Évora to the Portuguese audience, spotlighting an innovative approach to energy transition and heritage preservation
Évora’s rooftops are quietly generating clean power, and most people walking past would never guess it. This month, that story reached a national audience: the historic city featured on TVI, one of Portugal’s main channels, in an EDP-sponsored episode titled “Património com Futuro”, within the Novas 7 Maravilhas de Portugal contest.
On camera, POCITYF coordinator João Cravinho, from EDP, explained what sets Évora’s approach apart. Conventional solar panels cannot simply be installed on buildings in Évora’s UNESCO-listed historic centre. POCITYF therefore turned to photovoltaic tiles and glass that blend into the buildings themselves, lifting local energy production without changing the appearance of the historic cityscape. “Our goal is to show that heritage and innovation aren’t incompatible. They can reinforce each other and coexist.” said Cravinho.
Cravinho also pointed to the human side of the project. Alongside the technical work on generation, e-mobility, storage and energy management, Évora’s residents can use digital tools to better understand their energy consumption and play a more active role in the city’s energy transition. “Here in Évora,” he said, “the energy of the future is being built on centuries of the city’s history.”
