At its final event in Évora, POCITYF will reflect on the lessons from its pilot cities and discuss how historic urban centres can advance climate neutrality

Historic cities face an additional challenge on the path to climate neutrality: introducing new energy solutions while respecting urban cultural heritage. How the specific constraints of historic urban centres shaped implementation? What helped more with citizen engagement activities? Which data proved useful when the innovative solutions were deployed? On 29–30 September 2026, POCITYF will share years of direct experience with “Historic urban centres driving climate neutrality: POCITYF lessons and pathways”.

Through light talks and roundtables, the participants will discuss these questions and consider how POCITYF legacy can be carried forward after the project’s lifetime. The programme will also feature a training session for city practitioners and urban experts, translating POCITYF’s experience on the replication plans into practical insights for other cities to uptake.

A guided tour of Évora’s UNESCO-listed historic centre will also bring the participants where POCITYF solutions have been installed, preserving its unique heritage setting. The event will bring together experts from Évora and Alkmaar, the project’s two Lighthouse Cities, along with representatives from the six Fellow Cities adapting POCITYF solutions to their own contexts and the wider project consortium.
