04 Sep 2025 — From August 26 to 28, EU funded project POCITYF joined ECHO 2030 in Lyon, alongside other projects and initiatives driving sustainable urban solutions.

The European Climate HOrizon 2030 Days conference served as the final event of the Scalable Cities initiative, bringing together over ten years of work dedicated to developing smart, scalable solutions for climate-neutral cities throughout Europe.

Humberto Queiroz from EDPL, Pocityf project coordinator, joined a panel discussion focused on completed and close-to-finish Scalable Cities projects, sharing insights from lighthouse city Évora, in Portugal. How did the project manage to implement solar energy solutions while meeting the strict requirements for UNESCO World Heritage sites? Queiroz explained the technical and regulatory steps taken to overcome landscape constraints, positioning Évora as a practical example of how renewable energy can be introduced in cities with significant heritage value. The session also included representatives from SPARCS, Ruggedised, +CityxChange, Growsmarter and Atelier, fellow projects that have collaborated with POCITYF and face very similar challenges in their own historic urban environments.

The Scalable Cities network has played a key role in fostering the exchange of knowledge and best practices among European cities, accelerating progress toward climate neutrality. As this final event marked the close of the initiative, preserving its legacy will be essential to powering successful and sustainable urban development across Europe.
